Rams assert dominance with victory against Farnham
FARNHAM 1 - 2 PETERSFIELD TOWN
Link to my Club Website and report.
The Rams fought hard to gain a well deserved win against Farnham at Memorial Lane last Saturday.
Petersfield went behind early on due to a goalkeeping error from a corner. Keeper, Gardiner was organising his defence as Farnham took the corner. The early corner caught out Gardiner as he didn’t get to the cross in time which ended up in the roof of the net.
The visitors played good attacking football throughout the half in search of the equaliser. Both Matt Lowe and Gari Judd had good opportunities with Low’s header falling narrowly wide and Judd’s shot forced a strong save.
The Rams came out a determined side for the second half causing trouble for Farnham. A close range free kick was parried away into Will Essai, who had no time to react as his header shaved the post.
Mark Summerhill brought on added energy with multiple substitutes throughout the second half. His decisions proved to be a stroke of genius as one found the equalizer.
A high ball was lobbed outside the home sides area. Substitute, Orepo controlled well, cut inside and precisely curled home into the bottom right corner.
Gardiner made amends for his earlier error with a brave stop. Clever play from Farnham, fed through their striker, however, Gardiner closed the ball down and got to it first.
The Rams found their second with an 80th minute winner. Strong pressure paid off as clever play from Will Webb and Matt Lowe led to a good delivery that was headed clear. Substitute, Josh Watts picked up the loose ball and laid it off to a charging Harry Bedford who hit a 20 yard thunderbolt into the roof of the net.
Summerhill’s Rams showed they are a force to be reckoned with especially with their quality in depth. Petersfield host Infinity in their last Preseason match on Saturday.
