Petersfield Town finish the job in the replay to reach the First round proper
PETERSFIELD TOWN 1 - 0 SHERBORNE TOWN
Petersfield Town advanced to the first round proper of the FA Vase for the first time in their history after a one goal win over Sherborne in a replay.
With visitors coming from a long trip to Rams put on intense pressure from the start keeping the ball in the opposition's half and creating chances.
The first chance started with Will Webb on the wing, weaving in between defenders and tapping Harry Tremlett through but could only manage hitting the side netting from a narrow angle.
Sherborne came into the game late into the first half. Anth Herrin whipped in a free kick on the left which was headed across and stabbed just over.
The only goal of the game came on the stroke of half time. A high ball fell to Tremlett rising highest nodding to Webb perfectly setting up Harry Bedford as he struck the bottom corner.
Not long into the second half Matt Low suffered a crunching tackle forcing him off soon after.
As Sherborne looked for the equalizer they had a couple of chances in quick succession. Firstly, Haydn Hodges blasted over after a slick move. Alex Murphy then had a header cleared from a tight angle.
Substitute, Marvin Orepo’s tricky feet got him into the area pulling it back to Webb, his shot was going in past the keeper but was blocked by a defender.
Petersfield should have put the game to bed 80 minutes in. A Will Webb volley from close range bounced up and agonisingly over the bar.
Going into the late stages of the game the Rams defended deep and the last chance that went begging for the visitors was a header that was cleared off the line by Ollie Keshaw.
Mark Summerhill was delighted with the victory as the Rams progress in yet another cup.
