First victory of the season for Summerhill's Rams
PETERSFIELD TOWN 2 - 1 EAST COWES VICS
Link to my Club Website and Petersfield Post report.
Petersfield Town asserted their dominance in blustery conditions in their first home game of the season with winning goals from Matt Low and Harry Bedford.
The Rams took the game by the scruff of the neck as they went on the attack from the off, supported by the wind they earnt a corner. Swung in by Will Essai, Gari Judd lost his maker and headed just wide setting the tone for the first half.
After a frustrating period of play without a goal another chance fell to Judd. Latching onto a blocked shot in the area he set himself up nicely with a bit of skill and vollied narrowly wide.
Essai went on the charge again whipping in a cross and it skimmed the boot of Cowes defender Zak Harris and fell just passed the post.
Harry Tremlett was left to rue the best chance yet from a deep corner. Ryan Kennedy got the header and the ball fell to Tremlett on the spot and his shot went agonisingly over.
The visitors first and only chance of the half came late on with an Eli Ahmed through ball and Cowes captain, Joe Butcher was forced slightly wide but flashed his shot past the far post.
The second half started with the first goal of the game. After 47 minutes Essai played a neat through ball to bourton on the bi line sending it across goal for Low to tap past the Cowes keeper for the lead.
The away side hit back almost instantly. With 52 minutes on the clock Kris Stevens and Martin Gardiner communication wasn't clear and paid the price as Jimmi Burton got between them and easily slotted home into an empty net.
The Rams responded well by going straight on the attack. Oli Kershaw curling a peach of a cross to the back post where Judd beat his man in the air, doing the best he could but the ball just went over and sat on the net.
In search of a winner Tremlett took on the defence side stepping a couple of defenders on his way into the area but hit is shot way over leaving another glorious chance wasted.
The Rams bagged the winner in style in the 70th minute. Orepo chested a cross on the edge of area laying it off to Harry Bedford, under pressure sent a low, hard into the bottom right despite the keeper getting a strong hand.
The first win of the season for Petersfield sees them rise to sixth in the league. They head to Alton for the first local derby of the season on Tuesday.
