Cheap free kick proves costly as Petersfield Town crash to home defeat.
PETERSFIELD TOWN 0 - 1 WHITCHURCH
The Rams fell to a frustrating loss last Saturday in the extreme heat at Love Lane.
In a game where the midfield dominated and chances were few and far between them Whitchurch had the first opportunity. Jack Blackburn did really well cutting in from the right bout to pull the trigger, however, Kris stevens timed his challenge to perfection blocking the shot.
27 minutes in the Rams almost took the lead. Olly kershaw picked up the ball on the right and delivered a beautiful cross to the Harry Tremlett, all alone on the six he took a touch and his shot hit the crossbar and went over.
Minutes later Tremlett had another fantastic opportunity. Will Essai did magnificently on the wing beating multiple players with great skill getting inside the box squaring it to Tremlett on the six yard box who fired over.
As half-time beckoned Whitchurch gained a corner. Swung in and met by a strong header only to be cleaned of the line at the near post to keep the game goalless.
Whitchurch got the first and only goal of the game from a beautifully taken free kick after 58 minutes. Petersfield gave away a cheap free kick on the left side of the area. Number 7 Aaron Randall stepped up a got his free kick up and over the wall into the top corner.
As the game progressed the Rams tried to get something through Marvin Orepo, great movement and pinpoint passing from the whole team got Orepo into the area before the Whitchurch keeper Konrad Szyniak blocked from a narrow angle.
Deep into added time The Rams won a corner. The last dirtch header was blocked by two players on the line and cleared.
Mark Summerhill will be disappointed by not getting a point as a lack of clinical finishing proved to be the downfall for the Rams. They head into a week of playing cup competitions on both Tuesday and Saturday.
